I’ve surely been on few dates at Limeridge Mall as a kid. Back then, there were arcades and movie theatres so it was much more of a teen hangout than any of the remaining malls that haven’t been converted to big box jungles. Tonight, Tara and I finally had a chance to go shopping together and Limeridge is my favorite mall.
For starters, I grew up a few blocks aways so we were there all of the time as kids. I actually remember playing kissing tag in the tall weeds that existed in its place before it was built. I never thought I would have these kinds of stories to tell of my hometime, like the ones my grandfather and my parents have told about how Hamilton has changed so drastically over the years.
Second, it is the nicest mall and at this time of year, it’s thankfully still bustling with patrons checking off their Christmas lists. Parking is at a premium, the holiday decorations are the best, and I love the music and the excitement of those last days before Christmas. I’m not a fan of making appointments for Santa though, as the lineups are part of the anticipation – A Christmas Story is my favorite movie and the mall scene is a personal favorite – and who has it in them to plan their shopping trips or when they want to squeeze Santa into the holiday frenzy?
We started with dinner as we were both famished. I chose an Indian dish, and Tara Greek. I reminisced about where the movie theatres and arcade and the original food court were, before we headed out into the abyss of stores with our lists which included some of what to get, and some of who we needed to buy for without a clue as to what to get them.
We did really well in the end. I left feeling like I was nearly done so that’s a relief.
Date night for parents. Now to start wrapping.
