Emma’s friend came back to town today with a cat, and we were asked to house it for a night while supplies were purchased before welcoming him into her home. The kitten made the trip home wrapped in a blanket, in a van full of kids and one curious Finnegan, but the adorable little feline made the trip up to Emma’s bedroom safely without the attention of our crew of boss cats. As you can imagine, Emma’s room was the place to be tonight.
Earlier in the day, I finally got the tub caulked so between the indepth scrub the other day and today’s finishing touches – not to mention a new shower curtain – the tub looks great for its age.
Tara had bought some pre-cooked packaged mashed potatoes last week that were still in the fridge, so I went to buy some ground beef for what Tara calls ‘Deconstructed Shepherd’s Pie’, and I call a ‘Shepherd’s Fry’. I cooked the meat, potatoes, and corn all separate, and the house full of kids devoured it along with a nice fresh French loaf.
Actually – as Hayleigh would always say when she was little – it’s technically a Cottage Pie because a Shepherd’s Pie traditionally used Lamb. I looked it up because I was curious what you called it when there were other vegetables in it, but the original recipes don’t limit the third ingredient to corn alone. We have pea detesters in our house though so sticking to the yellow veggie is best to keep the crew’s tummies full.
Emma’s friends are driven home, and the night came and went with no drama from our cats outside of Emma’s doors so that is a relief. Oakley seems to be content wherever he is from cars to walking down the sidewalk in a blanket.
