Our niece, also the eldest flower girl at our wedding, was graduating today so she and her parents flew up from Texas to celebrate the occasion with family.
We started the evening out at Casalinga Ristorante in Mississauga. I had never heard of it before, but I would certainly go back. The staff was very pleasant and the food was amazing. I had the liver and it didn’t disappoint.
From there, we headed to their hotel in Toronto for wine, dessert, and presents. They were staying at the Weston which I didn’t think much of until we got there, when I realized I had been here for a Research Ed conference when I was a school trustee.
Sophia is the daughter of Tara’s father’s sister. I’ve only had an opportunity to see them a few times in the almost 9 years since Tara and I met, so it’s nice to hear the stories and about their life south of the border. We get many updates about Sophia’s adventures from her rowing feats, to her travels abroad as she continued her schooling.
As is usual, I nodded off a bit through the late night conversation after all of that food and wine, but not before being enthralled by the family stories of long ago. One such story was about her aunt who I didn’t realize had converted to Judaism even though Tara’s uncle is not a practicing Jew. This was that much more intriguing as I am listening to Geddy Lee’s autobiography – My Effin’ Life – where Geddy talks about his wife also converting. This was not something either men asked for as neither were religious as adults.
Back home, Hayleigh had had friends over but everyone was sleeping by the time we got home. Party animals. Even this old guy outlasted them. Well, there were naps in between the hours.
