Making Plans

Tara had a day at the office and was working late into the evening, and Hayleigh wasn’t feeling great so Emma, Abby and I enjoyed the dinner I made and then we sat in the living room and watched Elf. It amazes me that after all of these years, I can still laugh like that over a movie I’ve seen a few dozen times. I love the way they imagined basically an alien getting along in New York city who has nothing but hope and love in his heart, in search of his unsuspecting father. This is also the movie where I fell in love with Zooey Deschanel’s singing voice. Watching as Buddy becomes twitterpated over Jovie as she sings in the shower, is my favorite scene.

Emma was already past her bedtime so she was a trooper making it through half of the movie. I did a lot of head bobbin’ but I more or less made it through as well. Abby has been known to fall asleep sometimes, but she looked wide awake for the final scene.

While we didn’t get the tree decorated this evening, the decorations are now all down from the garage attic, and we are ready to dive right in after dinner tomorrow.

Although I was pretty stoked about decorating the tree tonight, Tara is under enough stress at work to sweat this, and what dad doesn’t relish rare nights like this with their teenaged kiddos?

Making plans. If I just hoped the stars would align, I likely wouldn’t have had these two nights of my girls undivided attention and hey, now there is one more night ahead with just the five of us proving even when plans falter, beautiful things happen.

Now I just need to get in the shopping spirit because not one present has been rung through a cash register this season.
