Today, I headed over to the boat to finish one final winterizing task. Thankfully, the weather has held off because this part I wanted to do before snow or freezing rain hit.
When I took the propeller off to store it, it left the shaft exposed to the elements and the plan was to put a cover on it to prevent it from filling up, freezing, and cracking. The problem was that I took the battery out before I lifted the motor back up away from the ground, and I didn’t want to carry the battery all the way back and install it, just to do this. There had to be another way.
Sure enough, there is a screw on the right side of the motor mounts that releases the pressure in the power trim system. The problem is that the motor is so heavy that it’s not something I can do myself. So, I found a time when my cousin was free to complete this last task.
It only took us a few minutes, and the motor is snug as a bug in a tug.
I hadn’t seen my cousin in a few weeks so we caught up and talked about the plan for the boat for next season. The first task will actually be the bent axle on the trailer, then the wobble wheel adjustments, and finally we will hop in and tackle the wiring which caused some problems late in the season. My cousin is very handy so I see us accomplishing a lot come spring.
I also hope to get a bimini cover for the boat to provide a bit of shade for those hot days jumping into the lake, listening to music, and enjoying a little picnic on the open waters.
Is it May yet?
