The Curse Continues

The temperatures here in Southern Ontario have dropped considerably today. When I picked the girls up from school, it was hailing.

Today was the championship for the boys senior football team at my girls school, and the host venue was the furthest point east within our city borders. We were a little late getting there and just as we pulled into the parking lot, the opposition had just scored a convert, making it 7-0.

The rain fell steadily through most of the game, and the other team slowly built up a lead, closing out the half up 17-0. Seeing as though our squad came back from 25-6 at half-time to win their last game, it was far from over.

With the second half just underway, hope began to fade after a quick touchdown increased the deficit to 24-0. It did stop raining for around 15-minutes, and our boys had an exciting march down the field in that time, only to be interrupted by an interception that was paraded all the way down the field to make it 31-0.

The rain started falling a little harder and by this time, I could hardly feel my toes. We did stick around until the end – and for one more score – with the final tally being 38-0.

That three decade Curse of the Bambino was going to have to wait another year to be lifted. Still, the end of the season for these kids was an exciting one to watch. They were slow out of the gate, but found their legs at just the right time. Unfortunately, the opponents – who were 0-5 on the season, got hot in the right game.

Abby is staying at her mom’s tonight, Emma has friends over, Hayleigh is defrosting in her bedroom, and Tara is still at work.
