Between the pandemic and then rain last year, it’s been awhile since we have had a good crowd of cuteness on our street for Halloween. Despite the cold and a moment of flurries, my empty baskets of treats is a sign of a healthy rush of ghosts and ghouls.
My girls are with their mom, and Hayleigh has a handful of friends over to watch scary movies. As I write this, they are still at it. Who made Halloween on a weeknight?
Although the decorations were up Sunday, I wasn’t quite ready for Halloween today so I rushed out to grab some candy before I picked up the girls from school.
When my girls were little, a few of the neighbours used to put together special treat bags for them, so I had a similar idea for this evening. I found some cute little popcorn bags, and filled about a dozen for the kids on our street.
I was out just after 5. I put a Charlie Brown DVD in for the dogs, and then started carving the pumpkin outside while I waited for the kids. The squirrels had taken a couple of bites out of the pumpkin which seemed perfect spots for eyes, but they were pretty low so I made it an upside down face.
Our neighbours were a little late getting home, but I spent the remainder of the evening talking to them as they made up for lost time and piled the candy into the trick or treat stragglers.
The only thing I didn’t get to tonight was roasting pumpkin’ seeds. I really want to find some energy to do that. I just don’t think I have it in me.
I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween.
Hey, my fvcking toes just regained feeling.
