Our campground was hosting a horseshoe tournament and dinner for the campers today so we all made the trek up for the first time in a while.
I did have work I wanted to do while I was up here so I hadn’t planned on participating in the horseshoe tournament which was supposed to start at 1 PM. I showed up around 2 PM and as I was driving by, I got stopped and asked to join the game as they needed another player. I couldn’t say no because, at the end of the day, I love horseshoes.
Someone had asked me as I joined the game, if I was a ringer and I said no. Which is the truth. I had never won a game here at the Villa and I had only scored a handful of ringers in that time.
I was talking to my opponent next to me who I had never met before as I was throwing my shoes. He is also a boater so we hit it off great. For some reason, tossing horseshoes and talking was proving to be a secret weapon because I scored some 5 ringers in that game for a quick victory.
My luck didn’t continue through the next game – although I did get a double leaner, so my partner picked up the slack to get us that second win. In the championship game, however, my luck returned as I scored another handful of 3-pointers to lead us to victory.
My cousin Lee and I now have bragging rights, and my first-place medal hangs proudly in the trailer.
Dinner was amazing. There was bear sausage, chunks of deer meat, and a tasty venison stew, as well as potatoes and so many other yummy fixings including a variety of breads for dipping.
We had ice cream cake back at our trailer afterward, and then Tara and the girls left for home. I had planned to just go to bed as I was tired, but my cousins came over to drag me back down to the dance and I am glad they did. I just got back to our trailer. It’s 1 AM. What a blast
