The Final Lap and Project Archiving

I got a notice the other day about an auto-renewal of the whatthefvck.com URL in 30 days. This means that as I hit the final turn on this project, I also have to work towards archiving this site to my main web host.

When I started this venture on a whim, I chose to host it on WordPress.com for some reason. I’m not sorry. Now I know as otherwise, I’ve always self-hosted my WordPress blogs. It’s not a bad service. If you’re looking to do a simple blog, it works fine out of the box. I, however, had a few things I wanted to be able to do, but the cost for the tools I needed quickly got out of control. There are a few other limitations with WordPress hosting so I knew within that first week that I wanted to transfer the blog over before the year was out.

I have copied individual blog posts from one site to another before, but I’ve had to do a lot of research and plugin trials to get this work onto my server. It’s not perfect and there seems to be no clear way of getting the theme customizations to transfer over, but for the most part, the raw data has been ported over. Some photos and such may have to be imported manually over the next 27 days, but overall it’s been a success thus far.

Hopefully through this transition, you the reader will not notice anything different. Except I may not have time to make the theme look like it does today. I’m not sure that is important to me as this blog is archived past the project completion date, and I determine ‘where to next’, with regards to my writing.

 Wish me luck.
