A Yabba Doo Time

Tonight, we finally got together with my parents to celebrate Abby’s birthday. Their choice was also one of my grandfather’s favorite eatery’s, the Bedrock Bistro in our city’s east end.

I’ve taken the kids to countless breakfasts at this popular all day morning food spot. They used to have a soup and salad bar, but it’s one thing that didn’t return after COVID. My personal favourite is their Eggs Benny – which Abby ordered – and they have the best home fries around. I, on the other hand, chose the liver and onions which never disappoints.

The interior is adorned with some The Flintstones memorabilia, as well as televisions spaced throughout with our favorite modern stone age family serving up laughs.

Aside from memories with family including my grandfather, the spot also holds visions of team meetings we once held with local office staff filling up every space within the back room while we ate breakfast and learned about upcoming priorities and success stories within our organization.

Whether you’re in the mood for Wilma’s Favorite or The Barney Rubble, you’ll never go home hungry, and the prices don’t break the bank.

It survived a kitchen fire back in 2016 and COVID-19, but who knows when it opened because the history of the site is not easily searchable. I feel like I remember hearing that this wasn’t the first fire that the restaurant has endured, but I could be wrong. I’ll have to dig in a little deeper into the businesses history someday though. It’s surprising that such a local icon has a sparse paper trail. I do know that they recently underwent an ownership change.

Either way, hopefully my family is dragging my wheelchair occupying ass in there in my bib years. You’re never too old for a Yabba doo time.
