Cousins and the Renovation Magician

I met up with my cousin to talk about boat stuff but when I arrived, he asked if I didn’t mind going up to his brother’s so he could quote a job for him. I didn’t mind. I had no plans for the day and I also hadn’t seen his brother for many years.

The quote was for installing a bathroom in the basement, but we also had to deal with a flood in the backyard. We brought a small sump pump with us that when we left, was still going and it would likely be running for a few more hours yet.

The place is beautiful. It’s a one bedroom with an office and living room space in the basement too. The backyard is also spacious with a workshop at the back and a hot tub. What I wouldn’t do for a place like this – with a couple of extra bedrooms mind you.

I enjoy watching my cousin dream about how to revive and reconfigure spaces. He used to be a restaurant owner and when he was supposed to move into a different space, I spent hours with him there listening to his ideas for the building and helping him measure and draw it all out for architects. I wish I had a lot of money because there is a whole lot of untapped potential in that creative brain of his. He really is a magician.
Aftwards, we went to a local watering hole for drinks and some lunch, where we fought off way too many bees before having to take cover inside as the rain hit hard. My cousin wasn’t as lucky in fighting off the buzz kills. Perhaps karma, if we look back to the My Shoe story. Which by the way involved these two same cousins.
