Date Night and Baseball Protests

On Wednesday night, all teams were supposed to play game two of our playoffs but because our game was unsettled, the matchups could not be determined so for now, we wait. A Sunday makeup game was proposed, but the other team is unable to field a team. Our crew are ready to go because every one of them is ready to play. Tonight was also tabled as a possibility, but I only heard back from three players that were in, before learning their team also was not available tonight.

I woke up this morning to a message from one of our executive members that the decision was to award the Royals the win based on our regular season plus/minus totals, which were 91 plus for them, and only 25 plus for us.

I asked our families what they wanted to do with this. I didn’t feel it technically mattered who we played in game two, but our crew put in one hell of an effort and I too didn’t believe that this was the fate they deserved.

The parents agreed that we should protest this decision which was allowable under our rules. We had 24-hours from the point of receiving the decision, to when we handed in our protest sheet and $25. If we won the challenge, we would receive our money back.

I had many thoughts written down regarding points I wanted to make about that game, which also included wanting to fight a one game suspension from our team member. I was also cognizant of a protest by another team last year that failed because they chose to protest the wrong thing. It was important that there be something in the rules that could back up our challenge.

Tara and I were kidless so we also wanted to enjoy a date night, so we dropped our money off first and stated we would drop off the protest form later in the evening.

It was midnight by the time Tara and I got home from dinner, I made updates to our protest sheet, and I headed back out to drop off the paperwork for our challenge.

There were many things to argue but in the end, the rules state that we must finish this game from where it left off.

Now, we wait.
