Today was our annual baseball fun day. The weather forecast called for rain all day including thundershowers. As soon as I arrived to help setup around 9:30 AM, it started to pour. There is shelter at our canteen but the rain was coming in sideways so we had to cover our raffle table, and pull the barbecues into the middle. I thought there was no way we were going to be able to squeeze this event in today. When the bouncy castles and train arrived, I thought they would just tell us they couldn’t drop them off and head back out. They sat in their trucks for a while as we watched the thunder and lightning light up the sky and echo through the neighbourhood.
Around 11 AM, the rain stopped and by the time things got started at noon, it was sunny. It ended up being a hot day.
There was so much food traffic, that our barbecue team rarely had a moment to sit down. My feet are killing me.
Tara and the girls arrived mid-afternoon so they could get in on the raffle table and lunch. I miss them being young enough to enjoy the rest of the events, but I am glad they are still playing baseball this late into their teens. Well, 2 out of 3 aint bad.
I skipped out around 4:30 PM and we headed to the trailer to enjoy a beef barbecue. We stayed longer than we had originally planned as we were chatting with my sister and her partner. Tara and the girls are heading to Montreal tomorrow to see Metallica so I didn’t want them tired for what would be a very long day. I had originally planned to go but I’m exhausted.
I’m coming, bed. Zzzz …
