If you live in Canada or some northern states, you may be aware of a string of wildfires causing havoc across our country. I’ve seen pictures of New York covered in an orange smog, as well as Ottawa locally. In Hamilton where I live – considering the wildfires are in Quebec – it’s also been smoggy the past couple of days. It’s a dense fog you’d expect in August, but it’s been under 20 degrees celsius here so it’s definitely the wildfires. That and for days it’s been like living next to a 24-7 campfire.
Schools are canceling outdoor activities and today, our association followed suit which meant no barbecuing for Emma and I. Although these fires are devastating green space and surely wildlife, a night off from baseball couldn’t have been more timely with Tara away and me exhausted from one day without her. Dinner last night was 9 PM pizza and Indian wings. Tonight, I tackled some dishes, walked the dogs, and grabbed a homemade lasagna from the Italian bakery at the end of our street. The kids also had friends over and spent much of the evening outside going through their yearbooks which just arrived.
Otherwise, I’m going to enjoy an early bedtime as Tuesday’s are normally exhausting enough, never mind the stress of making it all work without my partner in crime. Tara’s ready to come home too. Her presentation was early this morning, so the stress of preparing for that is over and she is missing us and our fur babies. They are all feeling the same as well – especially the cats who have come to expect treats at 6 AM. They looked at me this morning as if to say “You’re late. We’d be back cuddling in bed right now if mommy was home.
