Tara left early this morning for a conference in Vancouver so it’s me, the three kiddos, and a houseful of critters for a few days. That means a usually hectic Tuesday was now going to be insane.
We’ve got this!
Our friend agreed to come help at baseball in Tara’s absence, and Emma agreed to tackle the game sheet. Said friend was also in charge of bringing all of the equipment, the game lineup, as well as setting everything up so when I arrived last minute, there would be no rush or stress from anyone – most importantly from the kiddos.
Today was a big challenge for our team as we were playing the other undefeated team. The difference is, they have creamed their opponents and we’ve had a little luck on our side.
We were missing 4 kids today so we had a call-up – as did the other team, so it wasn’t a true test of what our matchup was going to look like this season.
Although the game was lopsided (30-15), scoring 15 runs against this team is something to celebrate. We played 5 innings so if we can work to get them down to no more than 5 an inning by season’s end and a few more bats for us early, I think we will be a good match with a full squad.
The biggest challenge for our crew was many instances of bad sportsmanship from the other side. Multiple players mentioned it, and the umpire even told them to knock it off a couple of times. I was proud of how they held their tongue and focused on their game. To me, that is the greatest victory there is – mental toughness. It was something I had to work hard at as a kid.
If books could talk.
