Winning Streaks

Yesterday’s post was about Sunday because, well, Monday was a straightforward day. There were music lessons, I convened T-Ball, and then we had a baseball practice. It was a great turnout between our team and the one we practice with, and there was a second diamond available too so we were able to split up into batting and fielding drills.

Today was another crazy Tuesday. Group went well and we snuck around a little longer this week than last which meant we missed out on the pre-game pep talk, but otherwise I was on time and the game started and went quite smoothly.

We were up in front early again, but the game remained very close until the end. Because one of their players left early, it meant they had a short outfield and everytime that batters name appeared on the scoresheet, they were an automatic out. All that was almost irrelevant.

There are no new innings after 7:30 but with inning 5 ending at 7:26, it meant we could squeeze another frame in. We were winning with some room for error, but if they scored the maximum 7 runs allowed under our mercy rulings, they would win the game.

We were able to fulfill all fielding positions, but it also meant no rest for our players on a hot day. We were also missing two players including a pitcher which meant a heavy load for our other two pitchers.

The other team pulled off a miraculous comeback in that final frame, but our team snuck out a win because with two away, their next batter was the automatic out.

While I don’t like to win a game like that, I am sure it feels good for those I have  coached through 1 win over two seasons.
