It was the day I have been dreading and looking forward to all wrapped up in one tightly bound ball of yarn.
It was opening day for the girls baseball team, preceded by two hours of DBT therapy, with the day also beginning at another ballpark for the highschool girls baseball tournament. Can I just say no to all of it? Not really but for this introvert, that’s a whole lotta input over a 12 hour period.
Deep breath. You’ve got this, Pattison.
The tournament was fun. Our team won two of three games which meant they moved onto the playoffs on Thursday. This first day of the tournament is the most fun with teams from all over Hamilton competing all morning. There is so much life going on from cheering, to music pumping, the sound of balls boinking off the 3-pitch home plate, to the crack of some pretty amazing home runs.
From there, I picked up one kid and my wife the other, and it was straight to therapy after moving the baseball equipment and game lineup to my wife’s vehicle.
Although they really don’t want us leaving group early, I had to make the choice to skip out of the last 15 minutes so I could meet our whole team as a group for the first time, give that opening day speech to set a precedence for the rest of the season, and get a good look at what our full lineup looks like.
We won only our second game in the past three seasons and for most of the game, it wasn’t even close. The wheels fell off in the final inning but that’s on me as a coach to make those tweaks. Overall, we have a lot of talent and a great group of kids.
