Tuesday’s are always stressful for me during baseball season, but these next 6 weeks are going to be crazy with the last leg of the 20-week DBT program on the horizon.
I went to DBT on my own today because it’s the girl’s mom’s birthday, and I made practice afterwards with time to spare. I shared my stress with the facilitators about making 5:45 games on Tuesday’s going forward, so hopefully there is something we can work out so I can accommodate both commitments with less stress.
After dinner, it was time for the monthly Chai Chat with author and creator of Moral Courage College, Irshad Manji. I love these opportunities to connect with Irshad and the dozen or so other particpants who believe in a different, more inquisitive and forgiving way forward with a desire to understand rather than tear down.
Irshad starts with a story about a current news topic. We’ve covered abortion, listened to leaders like Troy Williams at Equality Utah, or from certified Moral Courage Mentors like Stacey Harkey. Last night, Irsha opened up with her feelings on AI and debating with Chat GPT.
There is always something profound said within these hour-long discussions whether it’s Irshad, a guest, or a comment in the Zoom chat. Last month, Irshad stated her opinion on what or who will kill off the diversity, equity, and inclusion craze. Last night, it was a comment from a gentleman within the chat when I asked why organizations are choosing divisive dogmas instead of programs like Moral Courage. He stated that ‘It’s easier to stand against something than for something.’
There are often resources shared too and last evening, we were introduced to Bystander Training, Thank You For Being Late, and Loretta Ross and calling In instead of calling out.
