The 80’s And Super Mario

Tonight, I enjoyed an impromptu daddy-daughter night.

For grub, we returned to an 80’s-themed diner downtown that we love and while we waited for our meals, we decided on a flick to see.

First, can I just say that the world needs more 80’s in it right now given the extreme polarization that exists. 80’s music, movies, and television series – and 80’s television theme songs. It’s light, it’s fun, the clothes are hilarious. It’s just what the doctor ordered on so many levels. There is something about the 80’s that says to me ‘we need to be in those places at those times for a little while to bring balance to the world. Just a thought.

Anyway, on pondering whether or not to go see The Super Marios Bros. Movie, I mentioned that it had to be good – they couldn’t get Super Mario wrong. There is just too big a following ; too much history. You can’t please everyone, but you can’t completely mess up a movie about one of the most beloved games ever.

The movie didn’t disappoint. The animation was fantastic and to me, I get lost in the creative aspect of the art of animation itself so the story isn’t as important to me but I thought the storyline was very cute, believable, and fun. It was also in 3D which I find truly makes it feel like you are in these worlds adventuring along with the characters.

I will admit that I dozed off a couple of times. Both kids gave me a good nudge and a ‘dad’. It’s their signature response to my signature move.

Let’s be honest. The movie could have sucked, but I’ll always cherish these moments. You never know when it will be the last time you did that one thing with them.
