Hockey Playoffs

With mid April upon us, our nightly televisions are now alive with multiple games every night of NHL hockey playoffs. Any given night for the first round, you can tune in at half past 7 until late into the evening, to catch a game in whole or in part.

I don’t get a lot of time to watch sports with life and family commitments, but I am at least more in tune with the hockey scores if nothing else, until mid June.

I am a Boston Bruins fan. My dad was a Bruins fan. Both of our favorite players were Canadian defencemen and now, a French Canadian forward who is likely enjoying his last moments in the NHL.

It’s been a record-breaking year for my Bruins. Most wins by a team in a season, most points in a season, the best goaltending duo in the business.

One of my favorite stories with this 2022-2023 team, is the bond between the goaltending duo. After every game, you will see them do stretch their arms in the air as they approach one another – the substitute coming off the bench to celebrate the in game goaltender – followed by a hug and pat on the back of one another’s helmets.

These are the stories that championship teams are made of.

Let’s hope. The last time they won it was in 2011, which is the only time they have hoisted Lord Stanley’s cup since I was born. The Bruins made it to the cup twice in my youth, losing to the Edmonton Oilers both times.

I am hoping for a Boston vs. Edmonton matchup in the finals. I am sure nobody will argue that Connor McDavid for Edmonton is one of the most exciting players active in the NHL. What a championship that would be.
