A Short Story – Part 6

The last assignment is to put together a 10-page, double-spaced document either made up of drafts of work we chose not to submit this semester, or past work. I chose the latter.

I have still only handed in one assignment officially, but there is some relief knowing that I am technically done with the major assignments, but there is a lot of work to do to make a good short story I believe.

Part 6

“We’ll take it,” Ken demanded with a confident smile.

“We filled up that rear passenger tire for you, but keep an eye on it. It may have a slow leak. If it needs replaced, just give us a call and we’ll transfer you the money for a replacement since you have to leave right away.”

We worked up the contract and with that, Ken and his family were off – taking the curb and a street sign as they clunked and smoked out of the parking lot. I wasn’t sure that shiny camera was going to make all of that bouncing around.

The next evening, I was enjoying a couple of the ale’s Ken had gifted me. A little dark for my liking but they were cold and wet. The weather had turned a bit nasty overnight so I had closed up shop early, threw in a frozen pizza, and popped in The Last Blockbuster documentary to go with the theme. I couldn’t believe Ken and his family had come all the way from Canada to visit a Blockbuster store in wintery central Oregon in an RV. Crazy bastard.

“This is KTVZ news at 6.“

Kent. Kent Matthews. That’s it. A popular travel blogger.

Fuck. What a shame. You owe me $100.

Snoqualmie Pass. I guess the danger zone called back.
