I have a bunch of words written down and a theme for my poem, so I’m making good progress with everything.
It’s officially two weeks to d-day today. Back to work.
Part 4
“Thanks, Hill. Nice to see you again. First, thanks for the advice about staying in town. We were up and out by 6 AM so we missed the sunrise from Pilot Butte, but I am glad we tackled the other end of these horrifying mountains in daylight.”
“Glad it all worked out. The RV looks like it has a few stories to tell though?”
“Yeah, this is going to cost us a few extra bucks but what a life-changing experience. I mean if you can survive Deadman’s Pass, you’re ready to take on the world.”
“Sounds like quite an adventure, partner. I’d love to hear all about it sometime.”
“Hey, we picked you up something to say thanks.”
A six pack of Blockbuster Ale? What is it, 1980? Buying a car would be a nice thanks.
“Thanks, Ken. Glad it all worked out for you. So what happened to the RV?”
“How long do you got? For one thing, RV trip planning apps are helpful. They point out which bridges your rig can fit under. They also identify which roads are safe for your weight and length. Both tips would have been helpful on days 2 and 3. Checking in after dark most nights added a few dings here and there too. The owner also warned us that the awnings are the first feature renter’s break. It was the third. There are a lot of things to remember each morning when you pull out and venture off to the next site. No matter. We made it back safely and the family had the time of our lives.”
