Hunting the Gowk

I finished all of my Writing For Publication course assignments today so I can sigh a breath of relief. With 17 days to spare even. What a great feeling not waiting until the last minute like I usually do. You can teach an old dog new tricks.

I guess I am the April Fool having pulled a prank past noon.

The truth of course, is that it is the last minute. April 18th seems like a long way away but toss in work and life, and the deadline might as well be tomorrow.

I did spend most of the day focused only on the task of getting to the church of completion on time – even though the path from here to there terrifies me.

I submitted a draft of my short story to our course forum, where we were asked to seek feedback. Our participation within the forum is part of our mark, and I have been mostly silent.

My distaste for online learning hasn’t waned, but the teacher and the course content are both intense and brilliant. Whatever the outcome – pass or excel, I have a ton of resources to work from whether I want to write poetry, short stories, newspaper articles, children’s stories, query letters, or put together a portfolio of my work. Everything I just mentioned except the article and the query letter, have yet to be handed in. To top it all off, there is an assignment involving 200-400 words within the unit three lectures.

As a famous yellow character would say, “Ay caramba!”

There are many benefits to this project, including the article I read in preparation for adding a little fools to this first April post. I can’t say that I remember ever looking deeper into the meaning of this day.
