The Bumps in Our Road

One guess what happened to us today: Three sleeps from our family adventure. Okay, I’ll give you a hint. It was 59 degrees fahrenheit in our house this morning.

My youngest sleeps with the window open because her room is always stifling – likely because the furnace is in the basement directly below so it’s a straight shot. I put dampers on all the runs I could find, but I am sure we could grow cactus or even oranges, in her room.

Abby’s space has been like that since we got the new furnace (checks home maintenance Excel log), in 2017 and from that moment, the blower was so strong we had to buy a heavier vent cover on the main floor because it was literally floating in the air that first day.

It seems there is a small bead of water dripping at a couple of PVC joints that go from the furnace outside. The ground was a bit wet and I do see some rusting on some of the exterior metal. I called for service, so hopefully we will hear something back tomorrow so my sis doesn’t freeze her tootsies off for 14 days.

The filter was soaking wet so that can’t be good. Perhaps there is a shutoff if it senses moisture? I took it out and we did get some heat for a bit, but 62 isn’t ideal. I had some PVC paste laying around so I threw a coat on the seam to see if that helps in the interim.

I’m not going to sweat it. I’ll focus instead on thinking about no personal space for 14 days. It’ll be like COVID without our bedroom escapes.

Hopefully the dog and cats are up for some cuddling tonight. Or, I can always crank up the dutch oven.
