Last night, the birthday week celebrations came to a close and although I had a bit of a headache to start the day, I’m mostly no worse for the wear.
I managed a walk with the dogs, I spent a little time with Julia as I come to the final pages of Julie & Julia, watched a few episodes of Young Sheldon with my youngest, I opened my gifts, and I did a lot of head bobbin’.
It was a great turnout for the big event, which included everyone from family, friends, neighbours, community members, and even an old minor hockey coach. I talked with him most, discussing everything from those glory days, our continued involvement in hockey, and our children. My cousin was right beside us as we both talked about how being on his team was some of the best memories of our minor hockey careers. Pav wasn’t just our favorite coach, our parents always loved and respected him as well.
I didn’t do a lot of dancing which I do regret. Especially since my youngest missed most of our wedding due to a stomach bug of some sorts – or food poisoning?
I truly am a lucky guy to have a wife that would set something up like this for me, friends and family who all helped make the day special, and three wonderful kids and the friends they bless our lives with, who enjoy hanging out with dad which is perfect, because I love nothing more than having them around.
I will lie in bed tonight with a much clearer head, while I reflect on the perfect week, and all of the people that touched my life these past seven days from a birthday message, to a shot at the bar last night.
It’s critter cuddle time!
