I took my eldest daughter to see Avatar – The Way of the Water tonight. I wont’ toss out any spoilers, but it did not disappoint.
I saw the original film in theatres December of 2009 with a friend. I had thought it was the first 3D movie shot in all digital and without the blue and red lenses, but it was a James Cameron film called Ghosts of the Abyss which premiered 6 years earlier. As for the red and blue lenses? Imax brought us polarized glasses in 1986.
Only one child unfortunately had any interest in seeing the new Avatar, but Emma did have to catch up first because she hadn’t seen the original. We watched it in her room while we went through clothes and other odds and ends in the pursuit of finding peace and a bit of floor in a chaotic room.
I remember watching this film a few years ago and wishing I could see it in 3D again. I recollected that feeling of being there and one with Na’vi people and if I can spoil one thing, it’s to not miss seeing this awe-inspiring film the way it was meant to be seen. Any scene shown under water is especially breathtaking.
Thankfully this time around, there were no issues with the projector as I can recall how frustrated the Oakville theatre got when we were 10 minutes into the film and everything was blurry. It was unfortunate that they didn’t start the movie over, but it was comical to feel the elevating rumble of a packed room full of pissed off ticket holders.
It’s a long film so I would attend an earlier showing if possible in your region. You know, if you’re old and need your beauty sleep like me.
