I’ve spent some time re-configuring the site as per your feedback. The main issue was on mobile devices where you had to scroll through a bunch of stuff to get to the first blog post.
You will now notice that I moved all the metadata like the calendar, list of my latest posts, and things like the search bar, to the footer. I created a ‘Skip to Metadata’ button at the top so you can easily skip down to it, and a spot where you can click to go back to the top easily. You’ll also see my stupid face in an orange leotard. You can click me in the face really hard and it will also take you down to the footer as well.
Speaking of site and project design, I don’t believe I have talked about why everything has an orange tone to it.
It’s funny how choosing a WordPress theme before any other pages or blog posts were done, totally set the tone for the rest of the project. I was just looking for something very simple like Julie Powell’s 2002 Salon.com blog, and I just happened upon the Stewart theme by Automatic.
I really liked how everything was burnt orange and I especially loved the style of the sample pictures used in the template. Right from the beginning, I decided that all of my site photos would be done in this style. Some nights I regret this as detailed photos can be a pain, but I really like how many of the images have turned out.
Along the way I decided to keep some color to make the images pop a little bit, but otherwise I do spend some time breaking them down manually into shades of orange tones.
So there you have it.
