Mugs on a Shelf

It’s late on a Sunday night and the words and energy are both in short supply but it’s not because there aren’t plenty of things to write about. I’d just rather be writing on the back of my eyelids right now.

My eldest wanted to plan a family outing and although going to the library and finding many copies of a book to read together didn’t fly, what we ended up doing together was a lot of fun. I do have one too many books on my Goodreads ‘Currently Reading’ list as is.

We headed to the west end of our city where my wife and I both once lived – at separate times – to do a craft together. The spot was called Play With Clay and what a hidden (to us) gem.

The place was packed when we got there so we gave them our name and number, and we wandered through the shopping district to kill some time. I’d say within the half hour, a spot opened up and we made our way back for a little pottery fun.

You can either make your own clay craft, or paint an existing item. We all chose to paint and each of us also selected a big coffee mug as our canvases.

Although a mug on a shelf looks boring, when you see what we all came up with it’s actually kind of remarkable. The only one frustrated with the result was my wife, but I am pretty sure it will look nice after a little alone time in the kiln.

Abby has to go back this week to finish hers, but otherwise the rest of us should see the final results next Sunday. I’ll share a photo of our mastery when we have them all in our eager hands.
