We watched Disenchanted tonight. It’s rare that we watch a movie together. First, there is agreeing on one – especially in the world of online streaming where chances are by the time we have a moment to relax as a family, one of us has already watched anything new.
My stepdaughter was case in point but she did indulge for more than half of the film. We’ll take what we can. My wife didn’t even make it through as much as it pained her to not fully partake in the nastalgia.
The original movie, Enchanted, came out in 2007. Our girls were 1,0, and -1. When they became of age to watch the movie, it was definitely a fan favorite. When we saw the trailer for part deux, there was youthful exuberance in the room.
The movie didn’t disappoint but rare has a mixed animated and live-action film ever for me. Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Song of the South. I know. My bad with the last one but I can’t undo the memory of going to see it in theatres with my grandfather. Many years later I found it on VHS and relished in those moments watching the youthful wonder gleam through my granddad’s thick-rimmed glasses.
We found creative ways to keep the kiddos engaged last night as the one’s and zero’s of their digital lives are always calling for them. We guessed how old the cast were, the original movie release date, other work the actors had done which was fun because the movie boasts quite the cast including Kolton Stewart who has a very local connection to our hometown.
I’m grateful for the moments they sigh an ‘okay’ and take an hour out of their busy social schedules to sit with a couple of geezers.
