If you celebrate any holidays within the twelfth month, there is a certain panic that hits you when you first type the date as December.
What are your favourite holiday traditions? Baking? Decorating? Visiting family? Perhaps there is a movie you have to watch each season or it just doesn’t feel like Christmas? Or, maybe you get a kick out of the silly antics your kids Elf on the Shelf get’s themselves into from pooping smarties to drawing on the kids faces. That last trick was played on my own girls. Little side-eyed buggers.
I am not Christian – or religious for that matter. I am not atheist either but for much of my life, I considered myself under that category. I believe faith is important. I love learning about different religions and traditions.
Although Christmas to me is Santa and Turkey, all aspects of my families origin stories involve Christianity from my Scottish and Danish roots, to being two part Brit.
My underlining values are inspired by the faith my ancestors held so although I don’t celebrate the birth of Christ, there is still a certain peace in the music, the height of the Christian faith at this time of year, or the feel-good Hallmark movies.
Where was I?
Oh yes, traditions. There are a few favorites on my list each year from dinners at both our parents houses, heading to the local garden centre for our tree, and watching ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. I also enjoy A Christmas Story but I do that alone. Maybe it’s a guy thing?
Whatever it is that makes the holiday’s special for you and yours, I hope for peace and good health for you and your family as you celebrate these traditions together.
Whatever you do, don’t fvcking shoot your eye out.
