With this blog inspired – in part – by late blogger and author Julie Powell, I have been reading her Julie/Julia Project a little each day for inspiration. She had quite the way with words and obviously cooking was not foreign to her before undertaking the impressive feat to maker her way through all of the recipes from Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking in 365 days – and blog about it.
For my project, I have the luxury of working from home so there is no long commute. With my wife working long hours, I am still shopping and cooking many nights too, but I am not looking to master anything except doing my best to avoid having the kids reaching for the bread and peanut butter after a few bites.
Julie’s latest blog was hosted on Blogspot and was titled What Could Happen? – Musings from a “Soiled and Narcissistic Whore.” She had a ‘what the fvck’ about her writing too.
At the top right of Julie’s blog – in her About Me, I noticed a few other similarities besides the 49 of our age.
“Dead-end secretarial job.” My title is administrator but same fvcking thing.
“110-pound dog.” Check. We are working on our COVID pounds together.
“Writing in my pajamas.” Yikes. Working, writing, cooking, answering the door to mail person’s and neighbours alike. They like my Santa hat PJ’s in October.
Julie started blogging on Salon again this year, and she had a Patreon account as well. I plan on going through all of her work during Journey 3-6-5.
Julie also majored in creative writing. I’m mastering the art of spell check and Grammarly. I was working on a certificate in creative writing before the university canceled it.
A story for another day. I miss those writers groups.
