49 eh? Dead as stale dirt holding up the stick of a plant you haven’t watered since you purchased it. Fvcking scary.
I didn’t follow Julie on social media but her blogging success was a big inspiration to me.
Julie Powell started blogging at 9:39:20 PM, Sunday August 25th, 2002. Twenty years ago on Salon.com. She (we), were 29. You can find an archive of her blog on the Wayback Machine. Goddamn technology.
As you may be aware, after 536 recipes in 365 days, Julie eventually got a book deal which was turned into the movie Julie & Julia. What are the chances of that kind of success in 2022 with millions of bloggers? Who the fvck cares. Maybe that is the secret. Julia was tired of her 9-5, loved to write, came up with an idea, and ran with it. If you love the written word, isn’t the point just using the gift?
So I guess that’s it then. In honor of the now late Julie Powell, I am going to write for 365 days straight. Let’s see if the self-diagnosed ADHD will allow me to stay focused for that long on one project.
“Sometimes you just gotta say, ‘What the fuck’.”
Joel Goodson
With a wife whose coworkers all believe she has ADHD, 3 teenage girls, a 110 lb mutt, 3 cats, a gecko, 2 hamsters less one thanks to a tragic end, a newish lake captain trying his hardest to sink the family, and a disaster of a house needing way too many repairs, I’ve got the muses.
300 in 365. That’s the fvcking goal.
